dating single man
Single 40 yr old man seeks dating help!?

Hi,

I’m a single 40 year old man ~(living in the UK) looking for some advice on where to meet single women.

I’m not a hermit but don’t seem to meet many single people in my current circle of friends (all married now!) or at my workplace.

I’ve tried internet dating (with no luck) and speed-dating events (no luck again).

Can anyone suggest some alternative ways of meeting fellow singletons?

Thanks

D

I’d say try meetup.com. Choose some activity you’re into and see if there’s a group around you. That way anyone you meet is likely to be into something that you like as well.

One of America's most cherished novelist takes readers on the roller-coaster ride of dating the second time around! Poignant and wickedly funny, Dating Game is a story about tackling life and love with both courage and laughter--told as only Danielle Steel can tell it.From The Publisher:In her 57th bestselling novel, Danielle Steel brilliantly chronicles the roller-coaster ride of dating the second time around--and tells a captivating story of the surprises one woman encounters when she s thrust into the terrifying, exhilarating world of the Dating Game.Paris Armstrong never saw it coming. With two grown children and a lovely home in Connecticut, Paris was happy with her marriage, her family, her life. So when her husband of twenty-four years said they needed to talk, Paris couldn t imagine what he was about to say. I want a divorce, Peter tells her. Just like that, the husband she adored had dumped her for a younger woman. And just like that, Peter and his thirty-one-year-old lover had made their plans for their future, leaving Paris to pick up the pieces of a shattered life. Within days, Peter was gone. And Paris was left to figure out how she intended to get through the next day, let alone the rest of her life. The task could not have been more painful. First came the tears. Then the excruciating attempts by well-meaning friends to fix her up with men who paled in comparison to Peter. Worse yet, she still loved him. Finally, Paris realized she was in a fight for her very survival. Drastic measures were called for. Even her shrink agreed. It was time to move--as far away as possible, just after Peter remarried. Paris had never felt, or been, more alone.Saying good-bye to the world she knew and loved, Paris heads west, to San Francisco, and discovers being single in a world full of men who were too young, too old, too married, or too good to be true. For Paris, the list seemed endless...the charming commitment-phobe...the drunken Neanderthal...the young Frenchman--so adorably sexy she almost forgot about his age, and did, for a while. With her dating track record veering between disappointing and disastrous, and her daughter now engaged to a man Paris s age, Paris finally comes to the conclusion that romance is not in her future. That s when her small circle of offbeat, loving friends becomes more important than ever before. And a decision Paris makes only for herself changes her life once more. The secret, she discovers finally, is in finding the gifts in life s unexpected twists and turns, and turning despair into freedom and loss into joy.In a poignant, wickedly funny novel about getting dumped and getting over it, about tackling life with both courage and laughter, Danielle Steel explores what it means to start over, whether you wanted to or not, and finding something better than you had before.About The Author:Danielle Steel has been hailed as one of the world s most popular authors with

With the laugh-out-loud humor and heartfelt wisdom that made Animal Husbandry a national bestseller, Laura Zigman's second novel introduces Ellen Franck, a successful single career woman whose one desire--a child of her own--throws her into the ever-growing ranks of the "reproductively challenged."Ellen has a life many people dream about--a glamorous fashion industry job, an apartment in Greenwich Village, good friends--and yet Ellen feels herself at sixes and sevens, filled with a vague longing for...what? She can't say. Then the sight of her newborn niece, Nicole (a.k.a. "The Pickle"), makes her realize exactly what she's been missing: a child. But there's one problem. Malcolm, the man she loves, is too scarred by the long-ago death of his young son to ever consider fatherhood again.Looking down the barrel of the dark side of thirty-five, Ellen knows that time is passing, and as it does, her desire to have a baby only increases--especially when her sister Lynn announces she's pregnant with her second child. Now Ellen must finally address the very real flaws in her relationship with Malcolm and examine her doubts and fears about the only option that seems to be available--single motherhood. And so begins nine months of reading, Internet surfing, and nonstop Zigmanesque observations about morning sickness, stretch marks, accelerated hair growth, digestion, amniocentesis (and that's just the beginning). And Ellen...well, Ellen finally makes a clear-eyed decision that will change her life. This book has not been prepared, approved, or licensed by any entity that created or produced Sesame Street. Her biological clock ticking, Ellen's desire to have a baby only increases--especially when her sister Janice announces she's pregnant with her second child. Dating Rocks! Dating Rocks!
$12.48

Dating Rocks is a 240 page dating manifesto that outlines everything a woman should do to find, date and keep a man -- from being aware of her physical appearance to honing her listening skills. The best part of this book is Nakamoto?s wit as he helps the reader along. As a former Dale Carnegie instructor, personal development trainer, and international tour director, Nakamoto knows how to tell a story. There?s a rather amusing tale of how he and a friend had sworn off all women as gold-diggers since all of the women they encountered at an upscale nightclub would only go out with them once. A friend of theirs tells them, "The problem isn?t that these women are gold-diggers. It?s that you guys unfortunately can?t afford them." Lesson to be learned from such wise words: don?t try to place the blame for your lousy love life on someone or something else; be proactive, take control of your love life, and good things will follow. The book follows a rigid but successful format. Each chapter begins with a nifty quote from a major author or artist, past or present. For instance, Chapter 13 titled "Competition," opens with a quote from Margaret Halsey: "The great disadvantage of being in a rat race is that it is humiliating. The competitors in a rat race are by definition rodents." An honest male prospective that summarizes what is to be learned in the chapter follows these quotes. Nakamoto also includes an anecdote from his life such as the email he received from a woman complaining about an aspect of her dating life, followed by a list of steps on how to successfully accomplish whatever the theme of the chapter happens to be. Nakamoto, is not new to the "how to catch a man arena." His previous book, Men are like Fish: Everything a Woman Needs to Know about Catching a Man, was a funny, intelligent look at the dating scene with tips on how to not only initiate a great relationship but enhance the one you are in. In his latest book he offers an honest and refreshing male perspective that any woman can use if she finds herself in a dating slump. Unlike many of the dating books out there, he doesn?t send the message that women should wait for a man to decide what he wants to do about being together but instead he teaches women how to be proactive when it comes to their love life. He tells them to put themselves first -- their needs, wants, and desires. Ladies, you can?t get any better advice than that. In Dating Rocks you will find no catchy phrases and no antiquated ideals, just good solid advice (that may or may not net you a man), but along the way will provide you with a great deal of fun, insight and personal growth. Hope for the Good Guy: Trials and Tribulations of Dating Hope for the Good Guy: Trials and Tribulations of Dating
$12.99

Are you one of the hundreds of thousands of nice guys out there who desperately wants to become a part of the dating scene but just can't seem to figure it all out? Do you occasionally find yourself dawdling through self-pity and regret just because you feel you are without your other half? Well, you are not alone and there are thousands of other good guys out there just like you who would want nothing more than to enter into a relationship with the woman of their choice. For years, the good guy has painstakingly watched as the stereotypical football players, lettermen, jocks and cads alike, beat them to the punch when it comes to succeeding with women and appealing to the opposite sex. This is unfortunate for the good guy, who is kind by nature and simply wants to enter into a relationship with long term potential, in sharp contrast to the one-night-stand philosophy of his cad-like contemporaries. Instead of filling the minds of its readers with fantasy and fallacy, Hope for the Good Guy: Trials and Tribulations of Dating teaches its young male readers that it's okay to be single and that there is much more to life than an unhealthy yearning for a relationship with the opposite sex with unpredictable consistency. Moreover, Hope for the Good Guy: Trials and Tribulations of Dating fosters a sense of hope and inspiration through spirituality by letting its readers know that their dream girl is out there somewhere, with patience being the key to finding her, and their virtuous personality as the grace that will sweep her off her feet. Hope for the Good Guy: Trials and Tribulations of Dating is a must read for all good guys, shy guys, nice guys, the introverted and extrovertedalike, as well as those young men who have never believed they will ever find their Ms. Right. Wollie Shelley is a greeting card artist struggling to keep afloat financially and to pursue--despite a series of recent disasters--the search for the love of her life. She reluctantly agrees to be a contestant on the reality television show Biological Clock. The show's premise: six eligible singles date each other, and the audience votes on which couple would make the best parents. Alas, Wollie isn't having much luck finding a man she'd like to date off the air, much less father her child. As the biological clock ticks away, Wollie gets caught up in a much more pressing demand on her time. Her friend Annika has vanished into thin air and Wollie is convinced that she's in grave danger. When Wollie reports the disappearance to the Los Angeles Police Department, however, the detective assigned to the case seems more interested in dating Wollie than in finding her friend. So Wollie springs into action--and lands right in the middle of an FBI investigation into an international drug cartel. She soon finds herself being stalked by an assortment of threatening characters, including her fellow television contestants, who will stop at nothing to beat the clock. With Dating Is Murder, Kozak delivers another sparkling treasure, a laugh-out-loud funny, literate mystery for readers of Janet Evanovich and Sue Grafton, and for Kozak's own growing legion of fans.

The Complete Male Handbook for Sex, Dating, and Other Trivial Stuff The Complete Male Handbook for Sex, Dating, and Other Trivial Stuff
$11.98

It's been a tough year for the average single man. He won’t roll over in the morning and find his female Internet chat-pal waiting with breakfast in bed. The prospects at the office Christmas party will be: a woman with a face that resembles the “Before” photo in a Retin-A ad; or one whose sole interest is in becoming the next Vice-President of Marketing; or a third who is trying to pick up the other two. How is a man supposed to wade through the muck of the bar scene, personal ads, and blind dates with Aunt Millie’s hairdresser and not need a dose of Prozac? He needs a little help. What he doesn’t want are some sterilized pointers from some Masters and Johnson type. Instead he needs some “storming down the sidelines coaching” and positive reinforcement from that "guy down the road" who always seems to know what to do. The Complete Male Handbook for Sex, Dating, and Other Trivial Stuff attempts to provide the single male with the guidance he needs. Consider this a comedy-laced journey from bar life to the altar, a book that strives to give the average guy the confidence he needs to find Ms. Right...without turning him off by sounding like a preaching know-it-all. The Complete Male Handbook weaves together the first-person story of the successes and pratfalls of the Peter Bartula’s own dating endeavors with third-person how-to's and a look at the changes men go through as they climb the ladder of a successful relationship. The Complete Male Handbook for Sex, Dating, and Other Trivial Stuff investigates contemporary dating in a way that will keep the Generation X, Generation Next, or the Perplexed Male from trading the book for the remote control. "If you're dating, The Complete Male Handbook for Sex, Dating, and Other Trivial Stuff is a fun read as you walk along dating's Yellow-Brick Road. If you're married, read it anyway. It's a thought-provoking trip down Memory Lane. And if you're married and dating--WHATTA YA THINKIN'!" - Chris Blocher, The Blocher Literary Review
